Yes, exercise really can help if you're suffering from menopausal depression. Even if you've never been keen on exercise, at this stage of life you can't afford to ignore great benefits to be had from getting more active.

The UK Mental Health Foundation say that using exercise can be as effective as taking antidepressant drugs, in cases of mild to moderate depression.

There are so many ways you can get a little more liveliness into your life, from taking a walk, to signing up for a yoga class, lifting weights to going for a swim. Just make sure that you don't put all your efforts into aerobic exercise. In midlife it's vital to retain and increase muscle strength, so add in some resistance training exercises as well. Not only will you help to boost your mood, you'll be doing your body a real favour as well.
