How does exercise combat osteoporosis?

by Elizabeth
(Beat Menopause Weight Gain)

Exercise combats osteoporosis by stimulating bone growth and helping to prevent the bone deterioration that is typical of osteoporosis.

It has to be the right kind of exercise to do any good - weight bearing exercise. There are lots of different types of weight bearing exercise, from running and jogging, through to skipping, dancing and tennis. For a very simple exercise, you can simply jump up and down on the spot.

Be careful to place your foot flat to the floor as you come down - don't jump up and down on your toes. Do your jumps frequently - otherwise they won't make a difference to your bone health.
