How quickly can I lose weight?

11 January 2010 It's natural to want to lose weight quickly when you're feeling a tad bloated after the Christmas excesses.
Losing a large amount of weight should be a slow and steady process, but if you're generally happy with your size and just know that you need to shed 1-4 pounds to feel trim again, then there is a quick fix. Here's what to do:
For 7-10 days:
- Do at least 30 minutes exercise every single day. A simple way is to use an exercise DVD and follow the routines. Work at your own pace - don't punish yourself, especially if you're not a regular exerciser. But get your heart pumping and your muscles flexing with a mix of aerobic exercise and muscle-building exercise.
- Drink nothing but water. If the weather's chilly, as it has been for the last week, have hot water with a slice of lemon or a herbal tea. Avoid soft drinks, sodas, colas and alcohol completely.
- Have a breakfast of oatmeal/porridge made with water or skimmed milk and with some dried fruit added for sweetness. Have a homemade soup for lunch with wholewheat toast. In the evening, lean protein of your choice with plenty of veg. Yes, you may have 2-3 snacks a day - but not junk.
After only a few days you'll feel leaner and fitter. It does work - this time last week, I could barely get my jeans done up, never mind sit down in them. This morning, the button slips through its hole easily and I am not in constant pain!
Best thing of all, this routine gives your New Year's routine a kick-start, and the motivation to keep on exercising and eating healthily all year round.
