Is swimming a weight bearing exercise?

No, swimming is not a weight-bearing exercise because the water supports the weight of your body while you exercise. The same goes for Aquafit and aquarobics.

These are great types of aerobic exercise, giving your heart, lungs and circulation a good workout, and can help with flexibility, muscle tone and stamina.

But the one thing that can't be achieved by swimming or any other type of exercise where you're immersed in water is bone-strengthening. For that, you must do weight bearing exercise - it's very important for women of 40 and over.
