New Test to Predict Early Menopause
by Elizabeth
Early menopause affects around 1% of women under 40, and 5-10% of women aged between 40 and 45, and can be catastrophic if a woman has not yet started a family. Within a few years it may be possible to use a simple blood test to predict when a woman is likely to have her last period - and from that, she will be able to get an idea of when her fertility will start to dwindle, vital information for women who want to have a baby in their thirties or beyond. The research was presented to The European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and could represent a major step forward for women anxious that an early menopause could rule out the possibility of having a much-wanted child.
