Will I still be hungry after gastric band op?
by Beth
I've gotten hugely overweight and my physician says a gastric band could help me lose weight. Will I still be hungry so much after a gastric band op? Answer: There's been some new research into this, which has found that people who've had a gastric band operation have less of a desire to eat their favorite foods when their body doesn't need the extra energy - called 'hedonistic hunger'. It seems that the gastric band op works not just by making your stomach smaller so you fill up fast, but making it easier for you to resist unhealthy foods. We don't know how long the effect lasts, and in the end, how much weight you lose and how whether it stays off permanently depends on how good you are at establishing a new healthier lifestyle.
