New Test to Predict Early Menopause
(Beat Menopause Weight Gain)
Are you likely to be one of the small number of women who have an early menopause?
Early menopause affects around 1% of women under 40, and 5-10% of women aged between 40 and 45, and can be catastrophic if a woman has not yet started a family.
Within a few years it may be possible to use a simple blood test to predict when a woman is likely to have her last period - and from that, she will be able to get an idea of when her fertility will start to dwindle, vital information for women who want to have a baby in their thirties or beyond.
The research was presented to The European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology and could represent a major step forward for women anxious that an early menopause could rule out the possibility of having a much-wanted child.
